History Hikes: Lehigh Navigation

This walk begins in the small parking lot in Northampton Canal Park adjacent to the footbridge over the Hokendauqua Creek. Moving downstream, it will feature still-visible elements of the Lehigh Navigation, including an aqueduct, the overgrown canal prism, the outlet lock, and the guardlock 6/feeder gate complex. The walk leader, Martha Capwell, will bring historic photos of this section of the Navigation. The route of the walk will pass the North Catasauqua Trail Head, which gives walkers an option for putting a second vehicle near the southern end of the walk route if they do not wish to complete the round trip.
Terrain: Trail is flat, gravel-paved and well-shaded in summer
