165-Mile D&L Challenge 2026

Home>Challenge>165-Mile D&L Challenge 2026

Spring has sprung so it’s time to get your tail on the trail and log miles for our 12th annual 165-Mile Challenge from May 1st through November 15th. Why 165 miles? That’s the length of the D&L Trail!

Join us for the 165 Challenge’s Kickoff event at Sand Island Trailhead, Bethlehem.

This year carries added significance, as we celebrate America250. To tap into the region and nation’s history, we encourage weaving history into your miles, starting with our kick-off event. In honor of this milestone year, you’ll also notice historical elements woven into the experience, adding depth and meaning to the route.

  • 1.5 mile Walk and History Talk through the Colonial Industrial Quarter led by Historic Bethlehem. Explore the connection between the Moravian Community in Bethlehem and the Revolutionary War during this guided greenway walk.
  • 3 Mile Fun Run: Enjoy views of the Lehigh Canal, Lehigh River, and historical structures as you run along the D&L Trail.
  • 12 Mile Bike to the Bell: Bike along the D&L Trail, through Allentown, to where the Liberty Bell was held during the Revolutionary War. Ride includes an escort provided by the Allentown Police Department. Bring your own bike. Helmets required.

Explore the outdoors and enjoy the warmer weather and longer days to improve your physical fitness and mental health. Follow the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage corridor on Facebook for D&L Trail conditions, events, and more. Log your miles in the historic canal or on the towpath at the National Canal Museum, which offers paddleboat, canoe, kayak, and bike rentals.

Along the way, join us for our monthly Health and Heritage Walks occurring throughout the corridor.
