November, 2023 – Split Rock Trail at NBLT Picton Wildlife Sanctuary South

The unassuming North Branch Land Trust George and Lillian Picton Wildlife Sanctuary (South) is located at 424 Pond Creek Road, White Haven with plenty of parking before the gated entrance. The Sanctuary is open from dawn until dusk. Please note Picton North and other nearby private properties feature hunting in-season- and are closed during hunting season. As a safety precaution, always wear orange for safety when outdoors.

October, 2023 – Back Mountain Trail

Tucked between a major road and the backyard of a community, the Back Mountain Trail provides an opportunity for recreation and safe, off-road transportation through Rt. 309 Corridor of the Back Mountain area.

September, 2023 – D&L Trail – White Haven to Lehigh Tannery

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (DLNHC) is one of the most well-known rail-trails in our region. Known as “the spine”, the D&L Trail preserves, interprets and leverages the nationally significant history of the 165-mile transportation route between Wilkes-Barre and Bristol, Pennsylvania. The multi-use trail is popular among hikers, cyclists, kayakers, and anglers of all ages and abilities.

August, 2023 – The Tumbling Waters Trail at Pocono Environmental Education Center

Located within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is a local non-profit that advances environmental education and sustainability through hands-on experiences in a national park. The PEEC campus includes 6 hiking trails, but one of the best ways to experience the natural history and beauty of the area is by exploring the Tumbling Waters trail. Named after the waterfall along its’ path, Tumbling Waters is an intermediate, 3-mile loop perfect for experienced hikers or novice adventurers interested in broadening their abilities.

July, 2023 – The Fireline Trail at Hickory Run State Park

Welcome to Hickory Run State Park. If you haven’t visited, you’ve likely heard about the well-known Park, famous for its’ National Natural Landmark “Boulder Field”. Visitors from all over the Northeast travel to Hickory Run to see the landmark and hike on the many other trails within the park to experience beautiful views, historic remains, waterfalls, and more. One of the best features of the park is its’ proximity to the Lehigh River, a beautiful view of which can be found along our trail of the month – the Fireline Trail.
